Let’s talk about what matters and create a visual poem that can be tattooed

Raúl Arriola Aguilera

aka.Rambolieri

a tattoo is born in the mind and finds a way to exist in the body.

My role is to aid that process.

Let’s create something beautiful together.

  • We get together, virtually or in person and chat about your future tattoo.

Big or small, complex or essential.

  • At this stage what you feel is of utmost importance.

We can add or subtract elements. We can let it simmer of get to it.

Loving the proposal and enjoying the process is the only thing that matters.

  • We bring the idea to reality.

So much gratitude.

A tattoo is like a house in nature, it should joyfully complement what was there before.

FAQs

  • Thanks to the style that I specialize in, I mainly use the two smallest needles available (#1 & #3).

This together with the fact that I rarely do large areas of ink filling mean that the lesion is very small compared to bolder styles.

Of course there are different tolerances to pain but as a fun reference, I’ve had a number of people falling asleep during the session.

  • All tattoos, like skin itself is subject to the passage of time.

This means that your tattoo will look different when it’s fresh and when it has healed, specially as the outermost layer (epidermis) heals. This acts like a slight filter for the ink living below (dermis) causing the black to gain certain softness.

    But the tattoo will remain.

  • I mostly do fine line work with means that among the different styles this one is one of the least invasive.

Going a bit deeper. It mainly depends on the following three variables.

The density of the ink applied is one of the biggest factors. The larger the area of highly packed ink the larger the lesion, the longer the heal.

The location affects the way a tattoo heals, high friction areas like hands, feet, waists (rubbing against clothing) affect the speed with which a tattoo heals.

In average though, fine line tattoos exposed to low to medium friction should recover surface evenness in about one to two weeks.

The care you give to your new tattoo affects the time it takes to heal but perhaps more importantly it affects how it looks and feels along that path, preventing scab formation and itchiness.

  • In essence there are three main subjects to keep in mind to assure optimal healing. You should be particularly mindful for at least one week after the session (ever better for two weeks or until the surface (epidermis) regains its normal even texture.

Cleanliness, Hydration, Irritation or CHI if you want to sound cute and remember with more ease.

The right amount of cleanliness is easy to grasp when you treat your tattoo as a lesion, this means not touching it with dirty hands, washing it softly but thoroughly with neutral soap, letting it air dry or drying it with a disposable tissue. Specially after going about your day, after sweating (which ideally is kept to a minimum) and if you suspect if might have caught some filth.

After cleaning comes hydration. This step is crucial to prevent scab formation which can be unsightly and itchy. However scab formation doesn’t mean perdition since it only affects the outermost layer of the skin as long as you let the scab fall on its own timely often slow manner.

Irritation makes into this list because reducing it is a key part in having a smooth healing process. This means sweating as little as possible (since salt can irritate a skin lesion). Controlling sun exposure to prevent sunburn. And in general avoiding any highly irritating chemicals in the area (and in your skin overall).

We can take a breath now because if you made it this far you are probably not a case that sprouts concern in my book.

  • Design process with assures you a PDF with your proposal usually goes for 1000-2000mxn depending on the complexity and size of the piece. Naturally this number can be higher if the piece is larger and/or more complex.

Sessions depend on the design and start at 2500mxn for small punctual pieces. However they normally average 3000-7000mxn since my pieces tend to include some punctual elements, some dancing line and some dot work.

A full-day is when we have up to 10h at our disposal (including an hour of lunch) to jam and tattoo at your hearts desire. This is particularly fun when you have a number of pre-existing tattoos to integrate in the design. Or if you have a jazz mentality.

These types of sessions average 8000-14000mxn.
